Airbus File Photo

The City of Mobile Alabama and Airbus were dealt another blow today when the World Trade Organization (W.T.O.) published a ruling saying that European governments provided Airbus with illegal subsidies.  While most of the findings have already been reported, this document provides information on the entire ruling and thus, makes it official.  Please go to the following link for the full report:  W.T.O. Issues Report on Airbus Dispute.

While Airbus/Boeing and the United States/ EU have been fighting over this issue for a while, the ruling, which was initially announced in June, really came as no surprise to those within the aviation industry.  Rumors of foreign subsidies have long plagued Airbus and it pricing and financing structure.

In its finding the W.T.O. found that governments of the EU provided illegal funding to Airbus through risk-free loans, along with infrastructure and research funding, to help beat Boeing.   It is unknown how much of the illegal funding was part of the tanker contract that Airbus was bidding on with the Pentagon.  Further, is not clear as to how this ruling will affect the rebid on the upcoming tanker contract that closes on July 9, 2010.

Both sides have 60 days to appeal, but this ruling comes at a very inopportune time for Airbus with the tanker bid deadline just days away.  And, at this point, what’s bad for Airbus is also bad for the City of Mobile.

Hello and welcome to the new AirCargoRadio.com.

In the past we had a web site in one location and then the podcast in another.  While it served our needs in the past, it was awkward and did not really serve our audience the way it should.  But now, that has all changed.

We are in the process of downloading all of our past podcast on this new site.  Stay tuned as we get started up once again with the latest in air cargo news…complete with podcast.

One of my favorite hotels

One of my favorite hotels

Well, here we are again in a very familiar situation. After coming back from a heart attack, I have once again been handed a medical issue that has sideline me from flying. To say the least, I am very disappointed that my career appears to have ended this way.

I will not focus on the adversity, but will instead continue to look ahead at how I can make a positive difference in whatever direction my life takes. Flying has been a major force in my life for many years and yes, I will miss it. And while I may not be an active “seat holder” I will, through this website, continue my quest to comment on areas I see that are deficient in my chosen profession.

I am very blessed to have served over 20 years with the same company and to have never been furloughed. This is a great testimony to the company I worked for and their excellent business sense and stability. But it is also a great acknowledgment of the leadership and dedication to the membership of the union, for which I am a member. I leave as one of the most highly paid pilots in the world due to these two great organizations. To you both, I say, thank you.

This new direction will now allow me the opportunity to start my broadcast again on aircargoradio. At the present time I am revamping and re-wiring my broadcast studio and hope to start broadcasting again during the first week in October.

So, thanks again for your patience, but we are back and, with your support, we will be stronger than ever.
